Porsche appears to have sent out a software update to their infotainment systems that causes them to constantly reboot. That's annoying enough on its own, but according to a new lawsuit the never-ending reboots also do fun things like drain the car's battery and spin the infotainment's harddrive into a death spiral. Oh and just for good measure each reboot produces a loud static POP to drive home the point that failure is inevtiable.

In May of 2020 some Porsche owners were sent software updates to their infotainment systems that caused the units to constantly reboot. The update was realted to Siruius satellite radio, but even owners not subscribed to the sevice started experiencing problems.

According to a class-action lawsuit the problem happened to any Porsche vehicle equipped with an XM radio antenna and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system 3.0 or 3.1 that received the Update.

The endless reboots are annoying and can cause a loud static noise during each start-up. But beyond those annoyances, there are concerns about drained batteries since the system continues to reboot even once the car is turned off.

  1. Soft reset by pressing and holding the INFO button for 10 seconds and wait for reboot
  2. To get to car options press the CAR button followed by OPTION button
  3. To reset the PCM select SET PCM system > Reset PCM > Vehicle Handover and confirm the two warnings.
